Student Assistant (m/f/d) to work in the ArtLab

The Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, investigates the attentional, cognitive, and affective mechanisms of aesthetic perception and evaluation.

The Institute invites applications for a

Student Assistant (m/f/x)
for 20 hours per week

to work in the ArtLab. The ArtLab is a multi-purpose event location and laboratory specifically designed to host behavioral and physiological studies in the field of the aesthetic evaluation of music, literature, performing arts, and media.

Innovative studies often require innovative tools, and here at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics we are constantly developing new ones. For this reason, we are looking for a student assistant to help develop software tools for scientific use in our ArtLab.

Your tasks:

  • Developing new system features as well as extending and managing existing ones;
  • system testing and verification;
  • Documentation writing;
  • Developing web-based applications and networking solutions;
  • GUI development.

Our requirements:

  • Status as a MSc student, preferably in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or Communication Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (exceptionally well-qualified Bachelor’s students may also be considered);
  • Experience with software development using Python;
  • Basic knowledge in GIT;
  • Basic knowledge in software architectures;
  • Fluency in German and English;
  • Experience in the following areas is an advantage: developing Graphical User Interfaces (GUI); web-based applications and networking; basic knowledge of software testing; developing for Linux platforms;
  • An independent, reliable and structured way of working;
  • Joy and interest in learning and developing new stuff;
  • Team spirit and a problem-solving mindset.
